Northland Raises $46,000 to Fight Homelessness in Greater Boston

Northland team members joined the more than 320 cyclists who braved the cold in Boston and Cambridge to participate in HomeStart’s 13^th annual ICycle fundraising event, in support of the fight against homelessness. Over $230,000 was raised during the two-day event held on February 27 and 28, making it the most successful ICycle to date.

As the only Boston area outdoor cycling event, ICycle raises awareness and funds by showcasing what it’s like to spend just one hour out in the cold, rain or snow, as a reminder that it’s nothing compared to living without the option of shelter.

Each year HomeStart awards the ICycle Cup to the team with the greatest team spirit and success in fundraising. This year it went to Team Northland, which raised over $46,000 and increased awareness for HomeStart’s mission.

“We are incredibly proud to be involved with HomeStart, an organization at the forefront of addressing the critical issue of homelessness, and positively impacting thousands of individuals and families in Greater Boston,” said Matthew Gottesdiener, HomeStart board member and CIO of Newton-based Northland Investment Corporation. “As leaders in multifamily real estate, we fervently believe our industry needs to do more – financially and operationally – to address the homelessness crisis across the country.”

HomeStart is a non-profit organization whose mission is to end and prevent homelessness in Greater Boston by assisting individuals in obtaining permanent housing and settling into the community, and by developing strategies to address systemic barriers to housing placement. Northland Participates in Apartment Association Gives Back Event

Employees from our Florida communities were proud to take part in a charity volleyball tournament run by the Southwest Florida Apartment Association.

The tournament was held at the Lani Kai Resort on Fort Myers Beach and successfully raised $2,000 for the Children’s Society of Florida, which aims to assist teens that are transitioning into adulthood from foster care.

Corpus Christi Team Volunteers at Food Bank

This week the teams from The Bay Club and Candlewood communities in Corpus Christi teamed up to volunteer at the Coastal Bend Food Bank where they spent the day helping sort and package food.

The Coastal Bend Food Bank is a nonprofit that has been fighting hunger by providing food and personal care items to charity and service agencies since 1982. For more information about the food bank, visit www.coastalbendfoodbank.org
