Ways to Give

Get Involved Today!

Today the existence of libraries is so much taken for granted that their significance as living institutions is almost lost to us. Why are libraries important? Libraries contain the heritage of humanity — its intellectual, scientific, and artistic achievements, its memories and its history. Libraries are a source of self-renewal, intellectual growth, and hope for the future.

The Foundation wants to continue making the Library a community center where all the wonderful treasures of knowledge and learning can be anyone’s for the asking. No other institution will benefit more from your support.

Here are just a few ways in which you can help:

We appreciate all forms of giving to the Foundation. To see how we recognize donors of all levels, please see our Donor Recognition Policy.

Give NOW to the Annual Fund

Donations to the Annual Fund help the Library create innovative new opportunities for learning and growth, and remain as the second largest library of Allegheny County.

During the coming year, the Foundation will raise funds through the Annual Fund to support the Library's commitment to providing enhanced opportunities for literacy, reading enrichment, and lifelong learning. Find out more about this year's funding focus areas.

You can support these efforts by donating to the Annual Fund.

Perpetual Book Endowment

Endow a book forever at Northland. The knowledge in a book can be eternal and touch thousands of minds. However, the book itself cannot withstand the touch of a thousand hands. The average book is worn out in just a few years. The Perpetual book Endowment Fund ensures that these books will be available now and in the future.

With a one-time contribution of $300 or more, you can become a part of the Northland Public Library Foundation's Perpetual Book Endowment Fund. The earnings of the Fund are used to purchase new items annually. The collection is enlarged every year. You can designate the category for the selection of the initial purchase. Each item added contains a special bookplate, and your name will be inscribed on a plaque along with the year of your contribution.

Jane Kehoe Endowment for Children’s Programs

Jane Kehoe was one of the founding directors of the Library. She began an endowment to support an annual children's program at the Library.

You can help support creative and unique programs or help to bring in a children's book author. Gifts of any size are welcome.

Memorial Book Program

Honor the memory of a friend or relative by purchasing a book in his/her memory for the library's collection. Select a category that reflects the loved one's interest or allow the library to purchase a book in our area of greatest need.

The chosen book will carry a bookplate inscribed with both your names. (See an example.) The family of the deceased will also receive a card that notifies them of your memorial gift. The donations are also recognized in the library's monthly newsletter.

Jeanne Domville Memorial Garden Fund

In loving memory of the life of Jeanne Domville, Northland Public Library has established a Memorial Fund to receive gifts toward a memorial garden outside of the Children's and Young Adult Services Department. Construction of the garden itself and specific choices of plants or other garden features
are still forthcoming.

Jeanne began working for Northland as a teen in 1972. A graduate of Pitt's library and information science Master's program, Jeanne was a gifted storyteller and musician, and served for part of her career as a Children's Librarian. She also worked many years in Technical Services.

Jeanne passed away in May 2005, but her memory lives on. Our goal in this Memorial Garden is to honor her life and her contributions to her community with a design of lasting beauty.

Book Toters Service
(United Way Code #3624)

Northland Library's Book Toters Service has qualified to be a designated recipient of The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania Contributor Choice
Program. If your employer participates in this giving program with United Way, you may specify that your donation is directed to us.

The Book Toters program is run under our Volunteer Services office. These volunteers provide book delivery services to nursing and long-term care facilities in the North Hills area. Volunteers work with a particular facility, getting to know the residents and their reading interests, and deliver materials to the residents on a regular basis. Northland currently serves 13 facilities. Eighteen volunteers log approximately 1,225 hours a year to provide this free outreach service.

This program is supported with funding from the County of Allegheny Department of Community and Economic Development.

If your company participates in this United Way program, we hope you will consider designating the NPL Foundation (code #3624) as your donation recipient.
